I have a blog that was started the wrong way – it had too broad a focus.
So now I want to move half the posts to one blog and the other half to another blog.
I also want to have redirects put in place to redirect search engine bots and regular visitors to the new location of the post.
I know that I can Copy-Paste each individual post – but it’s going to take time to move 200 posts.
I know I can set up redirects with a WordPress Plugin for each individual page after I move it – but it’s going to take time to set up 200 redirects one by one.
I also know that I can do a Tools->Export to have the entire blog dumped in an XML file and use Tools->Import to import them all into a new blog – but then I would have to go in and delete 100 posts in each of the new blogs I’m splitting the existing blog into. That’s not that bad, but I would still have to manually set up the redirects.
I know that I can also edit the XML dump so that I don’t have to manually delete posts afterwards, but I think its risky, prone to errors and timeconsuming to do the manual editing of the export file – and there is still the question about the redirects :-(
So what I’m looking for is a solution that will enable me to:
- Move blog posts based on Category
- Automatically create redirects after the post has been moved
So far I haven’t been able to find a solution myself so I hope you can help me :-)
Please let me know if you’ve had this problem yourself – and how you solved it
